Job Description

The Hydrology and Hydraulics Bureau of the South Florida Water Management District seeks two (2) Engineering Specialist 4 to provide technical support and deliver products related to water control operations for District projects.  The incumbent must possess strong knowledge and experience in hydrologic and hydraulics theories and practices. It is desired for the incumbent to have a working knowledge and basic experience with water management and water control operations in south Florida or other states.  

The incumbent will prepare analysis, reports, and recommendations in support of the implementation, operation, and reporting of water resources projects; investigate, summarize, and interpret water control operation data to inform internal customers and the public; support litigation efforts by generating technical information; and represent the agency by providing information for projects and initiatives related to water control operation to stakeholders and partners, including federal, state, and local government agencies.

Incumbent must demonstrate the following technical qualities:
•    Knowledge and experience in hydrology and hydraulics is appropriate for this position.
•    Expertise in hydrogeology and groundwater modeling is preferred.
•    Ability to produce successful solutions to complex problems in the area of hydrologic and hydraulics, such as water control operation plans for implementation of water resources projects.
•    Fluency in the use of spreadsheets, statistical tools, database management, and programming to solve a variety of hydrologic and hydraulics problems.
•    Proficiency in communication and documentation of hydrologic and hydraulic products, techniques, and processes in support of district projects, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
•    Ability to represent the district at seminars, conferences, task forces, and other technical

ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 4: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
 
 
ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 3:Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 2+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
 
 
ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 2: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 1+ years experience in engineering specialty. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 1: Typically has Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and less than 1 year experience. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements include Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical engineering. Incumbent begins the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and receiving Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation. Employee begins to accumulate acceptable experience to meet work time licensure requirements. Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
