We’re seeking a motivated professional with strong customer service and communication skills to support and promote Solid Waste programs, services, and initiatives.
In this role, you’ll lead outreach and education efforts, coordinate programs and events, manage digital content, and collaborate with internal teams and community partners. You’ll also support strategic planning and help grow and retain our commercial customer base.

Position Duties
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Under direction from the Solid Waste Section Director, develops, plans, promotes, coordinates, and executes programs, services, special events, and modernization efforts for the Solid Waste Section.
- Oversees, develops, and implements education and outreach initiatives that promote and advance Solid Waste Section programs, services, and waste diversion initiatives with a focus on information dissemination, public awareness, and behavior change.
- Manages, maintains, updates, and expands the Solid Waste Section’s webpages.
- Develops advertisements, flyers, and other informational materials using electronic applications and computer software (e.g., Canva).
- Develops and maintains other educational and public relations documents and publications (e.g., reuse and recycling guide, annual reports, etc.).
- Interfaces with internal and external customers, clients, vendors, and the general public while continually enhancing public relations and collaboration with governmental and nongovernmental organizations, non-profits, and commercial businesses through various communication methods.
- Develops requests for proposals, qualifications, and bids for special projects, professional services, and other operational and administrative needs.
- Collaborates with the City’s and County’s sustainability departments in the development, enhancement, and execution of Solid Waste Section programs, services, and special events.
- Provides administrative support to all Solid Waste Section operations and administrative functions, including but not limited to developing, maintaining, and implementing forms, policies, and procedures, preparing bill of ladings, tabulating data, maintaining records and databases, developing and maintaining customer charge account information, franchise agreements, intergovernmental agreements, and other related documents.
- Supports strategic planning initiatives in collaboration with the Solid Waste Section Director.
- Develop and maintain commodity, volume, and efficiency and other tracking databases and records.
- Develop sophisticated customer marketing strategies to grow the Solid Waste Section’s commercial customer base.
- Develops and implements a customer retention program for City commercial and roll-off customers.
- Meet with new, existing, and prospective commercial customers to determine the most beneficial level of service.
- Assist commercial customers with in-house recycling and waste reduction education.
- Advocates and promotes recycling and other waste diversion programs and services for multi-family developments.
- Develop process for determining sources of recycling contamination and support related education and outreach efforts.
- Identifies and develops areas for program promotion.
- Assists with customer needs or requests for additional service.
- Must be available for business meetings outside of scheduled work hours.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Two-year technical or associates degree in a related field.
- Two years of experience in sales or marketing (including outreach material development) and program development or coordination.
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.
- Must possess a valid class D driver’s license.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Experience and working knowledge in the solid waste industry, waste diversion programs, and natural resource conservation.
- Experience working with the public, private, non-governmental, non-profit, and business sectors.
- Experience with marketing and promotional campaigns.
- Previous experience with computers with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license
