Job Description
The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.
 
The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.
 
The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.

 

TITLE: DENTAL HYGIENIST  

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Executive Director

FUNCTION: To provide dental hygiene, prophylaxis and general dental education to all registered patients of the Diagnostic and Treatment Dental Office.

 
SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

  1. Assesses individuals to determine their current dental status.

 

  1. Establishes patient chart and records necessary dental information.

 

  1. Performs dental prophylaxis and other dental hygiene tasks as necessary.

 

  1. Determines the number and necessity of dental prophylactic visits per year.

 

  1. Provides instruction on home dental care and overall dental education.

 

  1. Performs dental radiographs for initial and follow-up prophylactic appointments.

 

  1. Assures the dental hygiene instruments and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, and                   sterilized and maintained in operating order.

 

  1. Acts as dental assistant as necessary.

 

  1. Provides excellent patient care and customer service

 

  1. In collaboration with management and practice guidelines, maintains a schedule of appointments to meet the daily expectations of the practice and needs of the patients.

 

  1. Performs any other related duties as requested

 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Technical knowledge of dental hygiene practices, the ability to work with a wide variety of people, the ability to self-initiate and self-direct, ability to develop and maintain services for a specified caseload in accordance with acceptable standard Dental Office practice. Physical condition or reasonable accommodation(s) commensurate with demands of the job.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school of Dental Hygiene and New York State licensure or eligibility to practice as a Dental Hygienist. Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
