Your Role in Synergy's Success

The Junior Buyer will support the procurement function by building foundational buying skills, supporting supplier management, and helping ensure materials are available on time. The focus will be on learning, developing confidence in negotiation, supporting cost-control activities, and contributing to the smooth running of day-to-day purchasing operations.

How You Will Contribute

  • Develop core negotiation skills and begin to influence suppliers and stakeholders appropriately.

  • Demonstrate a continuous-improvement mindset and support small value-adding or cost-saving

    initiatives within the team.

  • Assist in reviewing supplier price changes and support efforts to manage or mitigate proposed cost

    increases.

  • Carry out day-to-day purchasing tasks and work proactively to anticipate supply issues or opportunities.

  • Prepare basic reports and presentations to support supplier performance reviews and highlight market

    updates.

  • Maintain and update material forecasts accurately and share them with the relevant teams.

Objectives, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support regular supplier performance reviews and use available data to identify issues or opportunities for improvement.

  • Assist in reviewing and negotiating proposed supplier price increases to help minimise impact on costs.

  • Ensure company systems (AX Dynamics/365) are kept up to date with accurate information, including supplier lead times, MOQs and minimum stock levels.

  • Monitor price trends and support the team in understanding how these may affect future purchasing activities.

  • Conduct basic research to help identify suitable products and suppliers that offer good value, reliable delivery and quality standards.

  • Support the Purchasing Assistant with daily tasks and ensure adherence to required processes.

  • Purchase raw materials in line with system requirements and supply chain needs.

  • Liaise with suppliers to confirm delivery dates and ensure materials arrive on time for production.

  • Contribute to global procurement activities by sharing information and collaborating with wider stakeholders supporting the Global Sourcing Strategy.

  • Maintain accurate databases, including price changes, supplier performance and business impact records.

  • Work closely with the Operations team to support raw material ordering and escalate delays as needed.

  • Collaborate with the Demand Planner to help maintain supply continuity and suggest improvements.

  • Support the management of raw material stocks using MRP systems and internal reporting tools.

  • Monitor supplier quality and service issues and help take corrective actions where required.

  • Follow company procedures and support compliance with audit requirements.

  • Perform any other duties as required to support projects, team objectives and the wider business.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience (Required to perform the job)

Essential

  • CIPS Diploma or equivalent degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain or Purchasing/Procurement

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Effective communicator, both internally and externally

  • Ability to prioritise effectively, processing large amounts of data within short timescales

  • Creative mindset, looking for opportunities to improve current practices

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in Purchasing/Procurement

  • Previous experience of working in the Flavour Industry

  • Knowledge / experience of using internal specifications systems/databases
