General Description

The purpose of this class is to implement senior activity programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Monitors calendars for daily events.
  • Sets up for activities, including arts and crafts, health education, and other programs.
  • Receives donations for congregate meals.
  • Maintains documentation of meals served.
  • Serves lunch to seniors.
  • Cleans facilities following activities and meals.
  • Serves at various Center locations as assigned.
  • Responsible for answering the phone and making telephone reassurance calls to clients.
  • Supervises the center in the absence of supervisor.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Requires one year of experience in customer service or closely related experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

The work is typically performed in a senior/community center.

Emergency Preparedness Tier Level:  3

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Must pass a Criminal Background check.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Must have food handler’s permit or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

CPR/1st Aid Certification required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
