The Role

This role owns how System76 communicates with the world—across social media, newsletters, and long-form content. You’ll translate product development into clear, compelling updates. You’ll connect with users and developers. And you’ll shape the voice of System76 across every outward-facing channel. This is a hands-on role for someone who can write, create, engage, and iterate quickly.

What You’ll Do

Content & Storytelling

  • Write and publish blog posts about:
  • Product releases (Pop!_OS, COSMIC, hardware)
  • Behind-the-scenes development updates
  • Engineering deep dives (in collaboration with devs)
  • Translate complex technical work into clear, engaging narratives

Newsletter (Lifecycle + Updates)

  • Own the System76 newsletter end-to-end:
  • Editorial calendar
  • Writing and editing with a focus on brand growth and product education
  • Segmentation and optimization
  • Ensure customers stay informed and excited about what’s shipping

Social Media & Community Presence

  • Manage System76’s social channels (X, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Reddit, etc.)
  • Engage directly with the community (developers, Linux users, customers)
  • Turn product updates into short-form, high-signal content
  • Identify and amplify community contributions

Editorial Ownership

  • Maintain a consistent, recognizable System76 voice
  • Build and manage a content calendar aligned with product releases
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and product teams

Feedback Loop

  • Surface insights from the community back to internal teams
  • Identify content opportunities based on user questions and trends

Other duties as assigned

  • Experience with HubSpot marketing platform, ability to produce visual content within Canva or Adobe

  • Experience with developer or technical audiences strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Linux, open source, or developer tools is a major plus

Traits

  • Self-directed and fast-moving

  • Genuinely interested in open source and the Linux ecosystem

What We Offer

  • Salary: $95,000 – $125,000 annual + benefits (401k, Health, PTO)
  • A mission-driven team passionate about open source and user freedom
  • Hybrid flexibility and a collaborative work culture
  • Work on cutting-edge hardware and software used by engineers and creators
  • Opportunity to shape the future of open source technology

Why This Role Matters

System76 is building a complete computing platform—from firmware to hardware to OS and OS services. That only works if people understand it, trust it, and feel part of it. This role is how that connection happens.
