Description
The Paper Bowl Assistant Operator supports the operation of paper bowl machines to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The role involves loading raw material, clearing jams, completing basic maintenance, performing quality checks, and assisting the Paper Bowl Operator with setups to keep production running safely and efficiently.
Essential Job Functions:
Operation
· Assist with the startup, operation, and monitoring of paper bowl machines
· Load raw materials, including paper rolls and blanks, into the machine
· Clear machine jams and restart equipment safely and efficiently
· Schedule work orders and properly code downtime
· Print and apply product and scrap labels correctly
· Enter scrap data accurately into SAP
· Properly label scrap gaylords according to company procedures
Quality Control
· Inspect finished paper bowls to ensure quality, detect defects, and verify compliance with specifications
· Remove defective products from the line and assist in maintaining accurate production records
· Report quality concerns promptly to the Operator, Lead or Supervisor.
Maintenance
· Perform basic machine adjustments under the direction of the Operator or Supervisor
· Assist the Operator during preventive maintenance (PM) and minor troubleshooting activities
· Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards
Compliance/Other Tasks
· Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, LOTO, and JSA regulations
· Communicate any operational, quality, or safety issues to the Operator or Supervisor during coverage periods
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead, Shift Supervisor or Department Manager.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education
High school diploma or GED preferred. Relevant work experience, skills, and knowledge are required.
Experience: 1+ year of equivalent experience or experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment with 6+ months of assistant operator experience.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
· Proficiency in the use of hand tools and the ability to operate them effectively.
· Knowledge of machine operation and electronic and/or manual machine controls to operate the machine and run production.
· Able to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and machine operating procedures.
· Able to communicate production issues to supervisors and others in work area.
· Basic mathematics (i.e. counting).
Working Environment
· Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. In addition, task specific PPE may be required.
· Our Manufacturing plant is not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year.
Physical Requirements:
· This position requires frequent use of hands and arms to grasp, position, and move products or materials. The role involves repetitive hand motions, coordinated use of both hands and arms, and reaching in multiple directions. Duties include prolonged periods of standing, as well as bending, stooping, and twisting. Movement throughout the work area is required on a regular basis.
· Occasional activities include ascending and descending stairs, pushing and pulling objects, lifting and positioning items weighing up to 50 pounds, and verbal communication.
· Vision requirements may include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
