Job Description

About the Department

The City of Shoreview is looking for motivated, high-energy individuals to provide tennis instruction for both our in-house group tennis classes and private/semi-private tennis lessons.


Group tennis classes operate Monday - Thursday in the evenings throughout June - July, with the possibility for additional classes in the fall depending on instructor availability. Group classes are designed to provide instruction in a group setting that meets national standards in basic skills and drills for players ranging between the ages of 5-14.


Semi-Private & Private lessons operate throughout the spring - fall, depending on weather. These lessons are designed to provide personalized, high-quality instruction for players ages 6 & up looking to improve on skills in a smaller setting. Participants receive 5 lessons for 60-minutes each; instructors will work with the participants to determine the dates, times, and locations of each lesson. Private lessons will be 1-on-1 instruction, Semi-Private will be 2-on-1 instruction.


Rate of Pay

Group Classes:  $14.75 - $18.00 Hourly

Semi-Private & Private Lessons:  $18.50 - $22.00 Hourly

Position Duties

  • Instruct youth in the fundamental skills of tennis for players ranging from beginner to advanced 

  • Greet participants and parents/guardians

  • Be punctual, reliable, and dependable with regard to work schedule

  • Ensure safe use of facilities and equipment at all times

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Previous experience playing tennis at an intermediate or advanced level

  • Ability to provide instruction based on the ability and experience the participants

  • Must be at least 16 years old

  • CPR/First Aid/AED and concussion training (will be provided post-hiring if needed)

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to lift and move 30 pounds

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching tennis lessons

  • Accreditation from a nationally recognized tennis certification organization (e.g. USTA, USNTA, RSPA, etc.)

Other Qualifications

Hours:

  • May - October, 6 - 12 hours/week

  • Weekday evening and weekend hours (hours may vary)


Rate of Pay

Group Classes:  $14.75 - $18.00 Hourly

Semi-Private & Private Lessons:  $18.50 - $22.00 Hourly

Physical Demands:
Employee frequently stands, walks, runs, and demonstrates tennis skills while instructing youth ages 5–14 in group, semi-private, and private lesson settings. Position requires frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and continuous movement on outdoor court surfaces. Employee must be able to lift and move up to 30 lbs. of tennis equipment and supplies.

Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed primarily outdoors on tennis courts with exposure to sun, rain, wind, humidity, and varying temperatures. Group classes are held weekday evenings (Monday–Thursday) June–July, with possible fall sessions; private and semi-private lessons occur spring through fall based on weather and instructor availability. Evening and weekend hours are required. Hazards are moderate and typical of youth athletic instruction.
