Position Summary: The position is responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy environment for clients and staff by performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Nature and Scope: Maintenance workers hold a position that is not generally associated with social services. It is therefore particularly important that the incumbent understand that they are part of an interdisciplinary team and share as a goal, the provision to homeless families of safe and secure shelter and also services necessary to facilitate successful relocation to permanent housing. Maintenance staff are expected to interact with clients in a supportive and positive way, maintaining as high a standard of professionalism as any other staff.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Facility Manager, Maintenance workers are expected to perform the following principal duties and responsibilities.
- Repair and maintain physical plant and equipment, including minor repairs outside and inside the building, re-supplying lavatories and routine maintenance of cleaning equipment.
- Sweep and clean public and office areas.
- Assists in the unloading and storage of deliveries.
- Remove garbage from inside canisters for street pick-up.
- Clean and wax floors.
- Observe residential areas and report to supervisory staff any incidents, situations or conditions which may affect the safety and security of clients or staff or the orderly operation of the facility.
- Communicate effectively with other staff within an interdisciplinary context to contribute to the achievement of facility goals and objectives.
- Communicate with maintenance, housekeeping and other staff to facilitate vacancy control.
- Participate in training and staff development activities to acquire and maintain both interpersonal and operational skills necessary for successful job performance.
- Any other job-related duties.
