  • Summary:
    We are seeking a Substitute Food Service worker to join our team at the District. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to students and staff, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and following all food safety regulations. This is a substitute position, meaning the candidate will be called in to cover shifts as needed.


    Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handler's Permit

MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background clearance
  • Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance (if applicable)
  • Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.

Reports to: Lead Cook/Building Principal
Building: Elementary School and/or High School Hours/Days: Varies M-F
Salary: $18.12 per hour Union Position: No

JOB SUMMARY:
Subbing for the food service department is a position that you will need to be versatile and may be asked to do various parts of
different jobs within the Food Service Department. Listed below are some of the responsibilities that you may be asked to do
while subbing to ensure efficient operation of the department.
JOB ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serving
● Provide assistance to prep cook and other kitchen staff as needed
● Assures presentation of all menu items adhere to standards.
● Assist in supervising student meal service to ensure the requirements for reimbursable meals are being met and
foods are sufficient and available for service in a timely manner.
● Assist in putting away any leftover foods in the appropriate containers and storage areas, whether it is the
refrigerator, freezer or stock room.
● Serve food in proper predetermined portion sizes, ensuring correct serving temperature and quality.
● Hold and maintain a current food handler’s permit for Washington.
2. Set Up/Clean Up
● Operate the industrial dishwasher
● Rotate trays to reduce wear and tear on resources
● Clean dish storage
● Set up, maintain and break down salad bar/carts/hot cases, etc
● Ability to lift and carry objects weight up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis
● Cleans cafeteria/production area including serving area continually.
● Maintains appearance of all equipment, serving counters, freezers, refrigerators, stock rooms.
● Adheres to all sanitation regulations
3. Stocking/Transporting
● Receives and transfers food and supplies to storage areas when needed
● Receives deliveries when assigned
● Stay informed of all nutritional information, kitchen supplies and health codes for state requirements for school
food service.
● Notify the lead server of low product levels and problems or suggestions for improving meal service.
● Must be able to lift 25 pounds and move 50 pounds.
● Other duties as assigned.
4. Cashiering
● Pick up money from the office
● Enter payments on to adult’s account
● Run computer POA system during lunch serving
● Monitor and enforce student proper use and food selection upon checkout.
● Balance to till sheet at end of serving
● Wash tables and benches (as needed and at the end of serving).

● Place empty milk crates in maintenance room and lock milk coolers
● Put the computer away in the store room.
● Combine milk into one cooler and unplug the empty cooler when on schedule.
5. Other duties
● Cope with stressful situations and large groups of students and staff, while maintaining composure and
professionalism.
● Work with students K-12, parents, and community members in a friendly manner.
● Attend in-service, workshops or training for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job
functions.
● Recognizes and reports all necessary facilities maintenance promptly.
● Ensure the safety of staff, the student body and self by being familiar with and following safety protocols
thoroughly.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or transcript, GED preferred or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write
simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in on-pn-one and small group situations to customers, clients,
and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral
instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Qualifications: Must possess valid Food handler’s Permit. ServSafe certified desired. Culinary and leadership
experience in either commercial or retail food services.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and taste or
smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions;high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic
or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is
usually moderate.
