JOB SUMMARY
Oversee, control, and direct transportation functions of the Transportation Department under the direction of the
Director, Transportation and Logistics. Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assign and monitor monthly safety training.
Communicate with drivers concerning transportation issues, schedules, and related matters.
Coordinate with the Distribution Area concerning daily load schedules.
Communicate with final destinations concerning load arrivals.
Communicate inside and outside the organization on transportation issues to ensure departmental cost efficiency.
Maintain a thorough working knowledge of DOT safety rules and regulations.
Interview and hire new employees.
Train new drivers and employees on Hazmat regulations.
Train new drivers on lift truck procedures and requirements.
Work with vendors on new equipment purchases and maintenance of current equipment.
Monitor all drivers’ safety performance.
Evaluate the job performance of fleet personnel annually.
Maintain accurate records of vacation schedules, attendance, sick leave, and tardiness.
Monitor random drug screens and DOT unscheduled drug screens on a weekly basis.
Monitor DOT physicals, endorsements, and related compliance requirements on a monthly basis.
Serve as Samsara administrator.
Performs other position-appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous
manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Knowledge of computers sufficient to utilize word processors, spreadsheets, and related systems (Excel,
Word, Dayforce, Samsara, etc.).
Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
Knowledge of safety standards applicable to DOT and Fleet Department operations, as well as other
pertinent rules and regulations governing work standards.
Knowledge of Hazmat regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of the organization.
Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent, with two years of college in Business Administration or a related field.
Two years of experience in a supervisory capacity directing, leading, and motivating the work of others.
Two years of logistics experience.
Two additional years of experience may substitute for the required education.
WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work. Tasks involve pushing / pulling, lifting, and handling material up to 20 pounds plus standing and walking during a minimum eight-hour shift.
ENVIRONMENT
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Examples: executive, management and support positions
