Intern - Legal

Department: Office of the Mayor
Division: Corporation Counsel

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, hours may vary
Starting Rate: 
$20/hour

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Draft complaints, motions, notices and other pleadings
    for review by staff attorneys.
  • Review
    administrative court referrals and tickets to ensure that correct parties are
    cited.
  • Schedule
    court and hearing dates for circuit, code hearing and other courts. • Perform
    specialized research as needed using Westlaw or other available sources.
  • Maintain court action
    calendars to ensure that staff attorneys are present for appearances,
    hearings and trials.
  • Update indexes for paid and canceled
    liens and judgements.


Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will support the Legal Department by assisting with
document review and organization, basic legal research, file management, and
data entry. The intern will help maintain accurate records, prepare summaries
as needed, and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Strong
attention to detail, organization, and professional communication skills are
essential. This position provides valuable exposure to legal operations within
a municipal setting. Candidate must
also be actively enrolled in an accredited college for Fall 2026.

Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.

 

To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
