Position Summary
The Engineering Team Lead is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers and technical specialists supporting power generation facilities. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance by leading engineering activities related to maintenance, system optimization, regulatory compliance, and capital improvements. The position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, planning, and cross-functional coordination.
What You'll Do:
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Assign workloads, set priorities, and monitor performance against goals.
- Support hiring, training, performance reviews, and career development.
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies.
Plant Engineering & Reliability
- Provide technical oversight for generation assets (gas, steam, solar, wind, or combined cycle).
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement root-cause corrective actions.
- Drive reliability, availability, and efficiency improvements across plant systems.
- Support outage planning, execution, and post-outage analysis.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Lead small to mid-size capital projects and plant modifications.
- Coordinate with project controls, maintenance, and operations teams.
- Manage engineering scopes, schedules, budgets, and vendor performance.
- Implement process improvements to reduce downtime and operating costs.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and permitting requirements (EPA, NERC, OSHA, etc.).
- Maintain engineering documentation, procedures, and technical standards.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, procurement, and leadership teams.
- Support long-term asset strategy, lifecycle planning, and budgeting.
- Provide technical reporting and performance metrics to management.
What You'll Bring:
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related Engineering field required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Experience
- Typically 7–12+ years of experience in power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
- Prior experience leading engineers or technical teams strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in plant systems, maintenance strategies, and reliability engineering.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of generation equipment such as turbines, boilers, generators, balance-of-plant systems, or renewable assets.
- Familiarity with CMMS, project management tools, and engineering software.
- Understanding of regulatory and safety requirements in power generation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
Working Conditions
- Primarily plant or site-based environment.
- Occasional off-hours support during outages or emergencies.
- Periodic travel between facilities as needed.
