CNL is initiating a Firefighter Talent Pool!

We invite you to submit your resume for consideration for future Firefighter openings at Whiteshell, in Pinawa, Manitoba. We will be reaching out to those who are a match for the required experience and education to participate in the selection process.

Candidates who are successful in the selection process will be placed in a Talent Pool, and as vacancies for Firefighters arise, candidates will be contacted by CNL.

Note: The number of positions to be filled has not been identified at this time. This competition will be used to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates to fill upcoming opportunities within the next twelve months.

Our Whiteshell (WL) location is looking for a Firefighter to provide safe and efficient services related to customer requirements for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection equipment. What will you be doing! 

  • Driving and operating firefighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Responding to Structural Fires, Forest Fires, Hazardous Materials Incidents, High Angle and Confined Space Emergencies, Medical Responses, Auto Extrication Incidents and other such emergencies.
  • Inspecting buildings for fire hazards and compliance with Fire Prevention.
  • Performing routine inspections and maintenance of fire department equipment and apparatus.
  • Participating in fire drills and demonstrations of firefighting techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.   
     

What we are looking for: 

  • Education 
    • Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Post-secondary diploma in a Firefighter Education Training Program.
    • NFPA 1001 Level II, Professional Firefighter Accreditation required.
    • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificates.
    • Possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 4 license with air endorsement or equivalent.
    • NFPA 1002,1006 and 1051 Preferred.
  • Experience 
    • Firefighting experience will be considered an asset.
    • Pump operations and emergency vehicle driving.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Must maintain the knowledge and skills to complete the normal daily duties of a firefighter, including but not limited to the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection equipment.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.” 
       

Working Conditions:

  •  Working schedule: Continuous rotating shift schedule that involves working, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position is part of the  IAFF F160 Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the IAFF F160 Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
  • Must meet the minimum departmental medical and physical requirements.
