Qualifications: All candidates must possess the following credentials:
(1) Completion of an ACGME-accredited (or equivalent) cardiothoracic surgery residency program.
(2) Completion of all three USMLE or COMLEX examination steps.
(3) Board Certified or Board Eligible according to American Board of Thoracic Surgery requirements.
(4) A current (or eligibility for) full Georgia Medical License and DEA license.
(5) International candidates must hold a valid ECFMG certificate and hold a valid U.S. Visa (i.e., Green Card, H1B).
(6) Ability to function independently in the operating room, manage complex critical care situations with confidence, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of advanced cardiothoracic surgery principles and practice.
Position Details: The Robotic Fellow will work at the direction of the Emory Robotic Center Medical Director and function across the Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital (primary site) campuses. In addition, the fellow will obtain full privileges across the Emory System of Hospitals that perform cardiac surgery. Upon the completion of the fellowship, the candidate will be competent in treatment of all robotic cardiac surgery, including intracardiac and coronary bypass; preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative patient care of complex adult surgical conditions, including major mitral surgery and complex/high risk intra-cardiac surgery.
The Robotic Fellow will receive advanced training in and be responsible for the following knowledge areas and skills sets including, but not limited to:
(1) Serve as primary surgeon or surgical first assist on complex robotic procedures and high risk cardiac surgical procedures, including intracardiac and coronary bypass under the direction and supervision of the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery and other cardiothoracic surgeons;
(2) Preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the medical and surgical treatment of complex adult surgical conditions, including major mitral surgery and complex/high risk intra-cardiac surgery.
(3) Supervise and train other cardiothoracic surgery residents and/or fellows, general surgery residents, NP’s and PA’s in performing admissions, rounds, consults, progress notes, on diagnosis and treatment of complex mitral disease;
(4) Interpretation and assessment of diagnostic imaging studies;
(5) Participation in both emergent and elective mitral robotic intracardiac procedures;
(6) Additional education and scholarly pursuits as determined by the Medical Director to support the mission of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Emory Heart and Vascular Center.
