    THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY 
     

    POSITION TITLE: General Worker

    ASSIGNMENT: General Worker - Food & Nutrition Services

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. High school diploma or equivalent
    2. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
    3. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
    4. Ability to reach, stretch, bend, stoop or kneel to handle, lift or move objects from floor level to 6 feet above floor level
    5. Ability to walk or stand for periods of four (4) continuous hours
    6. Ability to work under the following environmental conditions:
      • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
      • The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures are below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour
      • The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour
      • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level
      • The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, and exposure to high heat or chemicals
    7. Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

    PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Directly responsible to the Food Service Manager for satisfactory completion of all assigned duties (oral or written), performed to the established standard
    2. Responsible to the Food Service Manager for observance of sanitation and safety rules and regulations.
    3. Assists with necessary food service operations during times of emergency
    4. Interacts courteously with the public
    5. Maintains an effective working relationship with managers and other employees
    6. Maintains high standards of work habits, sanitation and safety
    7. Adheres strictly to the Handbook for School Food Service Personnel and all guidelines set forth in SBHC Board Policy
    8. Prepares food and/or baked goods as directed by the Food Service Manager
    9. Strictly follows recipes and production planning sheets
    10. Obtains, weighs, and measures products from storage areas in a timely manner to ensure present and future menus are correctly prepared
    11. Packages and stores food products in accordance with food safety standards and advises manager of amounts to be worked into future menus
    12. Monitors serving line to ensure enough food is available for service and replaces depleted food with fresh products
    13. Operates point of sale system and performs cash handling duties
    14. Assists manager in the ordering and inventory of products and services utilized by the food service operation
    15. Will take appropriate hours of annual continuing education/training as required by USDA Professional Standards or other such agencies

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

    Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator

    TERM:

    Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

    APPRAISAL:

    Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies

    PAY GRADE:

    According to the School Board of Highlands County Non-instructional Bargaining Support Personnel Salary Schedule
