Description

PWS Title: Cable Plant Technician

Clearance Type: Top Secret

Contingent upon award*

Responsibilities:

  • Route, label, test, and trace copper and fiber optic cables across multiple Hampton Roads facilities. Maintain clear, accurate labeling in accordance with local DISA standards and Protected Distribution System (PDS) requirements.

  • Inspect, repair, and validate PDS pathways to ensure physical security and compliance. Respond to alarms or suspected breaches, ensuring cables meet hardened infrastructure guidelines for classified networks.

  • Install and decommission cable drops, patch panel connections, wall jacks, and conduits to support endpoint relocations, upgrades, or new service activations as directed by network AMC tasks.

  • Support recurring infrastructure audits by physically tracing cables, updating drawings, and correcting inaccurate cable records. Document cable routing using floor plans, patch panel maps, and port labeling standards.

  • Work closely with Network Engineers to support port activations, ensure correct patching, and validate end-to-end connectivity. Collaborate with facility management for above-ceiling work, secured areas, or new construction support.

  • Update and maintain cable plant records, including cable routing diagrams, jack/port locations, and cable ID numbers. Ensure all documentation is current and version-controlled in the designated repository.

  • Prioritize support for mission-critical locations, such as executive offices and COOP alternate sites. Ensure redundant pathways and surge support cabling are in place to enable continuity during outages or reconstitution events.

  • Mount and maintain racks, raceways, cable trays, and patch panels to support scalable and organized cable deployment. Ensure physical installations comply with structured cabling best practices.

  • Pre-run cables, test continuity, and assist with staging of new workstations, switches, and telecom devices ahead of deployments or hardware refreshes.

  • Investigate and resolve issues such as dead drops, signal loss, or mislabeled ports. Maintain ticket resolution logs and confirm closure with the Site Lead.
