POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Director of the Student Health Center
Department: Student Health Center
Supervisor: Assistant Executive Director
Description: 12 Months – Benefits Eligible
SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Executive Director's office, the Director of the Student Health Center, in conjunction with the Medical Consultant, manages the daily operations of the licensed infirmary. The Director of SHC is responsible for the oversight of direct patient care; nursing decisions pertaining to employees of the SHC and students. The SHC Director is subject to on-call, 24-hours a day.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Planning and assigning duties to and performance evaluation of the SHC employees.
- Planning and implementing nursing procedures and plans of care. Facilitating patient and family education related to current health needs.
- Acting as a liaison between students/parents and outside agencies regarding current treatment. Implementing regulations pertaining to licensure of facility; compliance with State regulations; compliance with State and Federal narcotic regulations.
- Maintaining all SHC records and reports.
- Planning and implementing in-service programs and medically related training to all Residential and Educational Staff members.
- Facilitating all re-licensing and re-certification reviews for DPH, DCF, and certification agencies. Serving as a member of the Admission and Evaluation Team.
- Serving as member of the PACES Consult Team, or designating a representative from the SHC. Oversight of all nursing services at Camp Isola Bell and ASD Summer Programs.
- Oversight of the Medication Administration Program for the 7-Day Programming for PACES and CORE Programs (summer, weekend, and holidays inclusive).
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Supervision of Occupational and Physical Therapies Departments.
- Coordination with Residential Life, Academic Hub, ASD Athletics and the Transition Program regarding field trips, job placement, and athletic performance of students.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Current Registered Nurse with a valid license from the State of Connecticut Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
- Courses in physical assessment Current certification in CPR.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn American Sign Language.
- A background in Emergency Room, Pediatric Nursing and Administration is beneficial.
