Position Summary
The FPV Drone UAS & MQT Instructor provides full-time, onsite instruction and technical support to NSWG-1 and NSWG-2. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering FPV training curriculum; facilitating weekly currency flights; and providing technical support, including troubleshooting and repairs.
The Instructor will coordinate airspace, ranges, and training facilities; ensure accurate flight logging and compliance with all applicable standards; and contribute to the advancement of NSW UAS capabilities through integration of emerging technologies and support to procurement efforts. This position operates within a strict safety and security framework and requires regular reporting to the Government.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and instruct FPV training curriculum; support NSWG-1 and NSWG-2 courses of instruction (COIs)
- Plan and facilitate training events, including coordination of facilities, airspace, and range access
- Conduct weekly currency flights and provide technical support (repairs, troubleshooting, system maintenance)
- Schedule airspace, ranges, and facilities; support material inputs for FPV procurement and sustainment
- Establish and validate proficiency standards, including simulated and live flight hours and integrated strike capabilities
- Integrate current UAS components and software; maintain awareness of evolving tactical applications
- Ensure accurate flight logging and documentation following all training events
- Prepare and submit monthly reports to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR)
Required Qualifications
- Active Secret Security Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship with a valid U.S. passport throughout the period of performance
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
- Ability to meet UAS flight physical requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of experience flying, troubleshooting, and repairing FPV systems across multiple UAS platforms in contested environments
- Minimum 3+ years of experience with Betaflight and FPV simulator software
- Experience developing and executing training curriculum for both foundational and advanced UAS operations in combat or contested environments
- Hands-on experience with soldering PCBAs and electrical wiring integration
- Experience working in cross-functional DoD teams
- Experience evaluating and integrating emerging FPV/sUAS/cUAS technologies
- Experience integrating operational payloads and communication pathways into UAS platforms
- Familiarity with counter-UAS tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
- Recent, hands-on experience with kinetic FPV systems and associated employment techniques
Certifications
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform duties in non-sedentary environments, including walking, standing, climbing shipboard stairs, stooping, and bending
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds
- Capability to operate in austere environments, including desert, jungle, maritime, and uneven terrain
- Adequate vision and hearing to safely perform job duties
- Ability to maintain regular attendance and operational readiness
- Must provide medical readiness documentation from a qualified healthcare provider
