Job Description

Join Trojan Country as a High School Art Teacher!

Findlay City Schools is seeking a creative, student-centered High School Art Teacher to inspire students in grades 9–12. Under the leadership of the building principal, you will help students explore their creativity, develop artistic skills, and express themselves through a variety of visual media. Your work will encourage innovation, critical thinking, and a strong sense of belonging in the classroom and school community.

As a member of our educational team, you will deliver standards-aligned instruction while fostering a supportive environment where students can take creative risks, build confidence, and grow as artists.


Essential Functions

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in high school visual arts courses.
  • Implement district-approved curriculum aligned with Ohio’s Learning Standards for Fine Arts.
  • Teach a variety of artistic techniques, media, and processes, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, design, and digital art.
  • Encourage creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking through project-based learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assess student work using clear criteria and provide constructive feedback to support growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress.
  • Create and maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive art studio environment.
  • Manage art supplies, equipment, and classroom materials responsibly.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress and expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school-wide events, exhibitions, and initiatives.
  • Support and enforce school and district policies and procedures.


Additional Duties

  • Coordinate or support student art displays, exhibitions, or community art events.
  • Serve as an advisor, club sponsor, or extracurricular mentor as assigned.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district administration.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques, media, and art history.
  • Ability to design engaging, project-based art experiences.
  • Skill in differentiated instruction and classroom management.
  • Proficiency with digital art tools and instructional technology.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Dedication to professional growth and collaboration.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for Visual Arts (Grades K–12 or equivalent).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching high school art preferred.
  • Background in multiple art media or digital art preferred.
