Supervisor, Patient Financial Services

Position Summary
The Supervisor,Patient Financial Services provides leadership and operational oversight for a team of approximately 17 Insurance Specialists supporting Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Medicaid Behavioral Health, Veterans Affairs (VA), and TRICARE accounts. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality performance, operational efficiency, and compliance with payer and regulatory requirements, with a strong emphasis on staff development, training, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of approximately 17 Insurance Specialists, providing day-to-day leadership, guidance, and performance management.
- Monitor and manage team quality, productivity, and efficiency metrics to ensure departmental goals and service standards are consistently met.
- Provide ongoing coaching, training, and professional development to strengthen team performance and support employee growth.
- Ensure accurate navigation and utilization of the EPIC system for insurance verification, claims follow-up, and documentation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on North Carolina Medicaid guidelines, maintaining in-depth knowledge of regulations, policies, and payer requirements.
- Ensure team compliance with Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Medicaid Behavioral Health, VA, and TRICARE guidelines and workflows.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and performance outcomes, and lead implementation of improvements at the departmental level.
- Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional partners to address operational challenges and support department objectives.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
- Experience:
- Two years of Revenue Cycle, customer service or related experience; required.
- Three years of Revenue Cycle, customer service or related experience, preferred.
- One year of Leadership experience, preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Coding Certification - CPC, RHIT or RHIA; preferred.
- Additional Skills Required:
- Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
- Understands and can apply knowledge of decision support applications, data source systems and operational procedures and appropriate internal controls.
- Human relations and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with management, team members and administration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Ability to effectively train new and existing team members.
- Ability to design, analyze and implement processes surrounding billing, third party relationships, compliance, collections, and other financial functions to ensure effective and efficient operations.
- Additional Skills Preferred:
- Operationally understand and navigate the Epic system.
- Coding knowledge (CPT, HCPCS, ICD10).
- Medical Terminology.
- Knowledge of Billing Guidelines, Payor Guidelines and CCI Edits.
