About the Department
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Support Services the Student Development Advisor is responsible for ensuring that the plan of operation is carried out as listed in the SSS grant.
Position Duties
Essential Functions:

- Assists in the overall coordination of the Student Support Services work plan.
- Serves as a liaison between SSS, faculty, and staff.
- Identifies and advises a diverse population of students.
- Maintains a caseload of 125 or more SSS participants.
- Plans and coordinates retention activities to include advising, student success workshops, college transfer programming and program marketing to the campus community.
- Advise and assist students in registering for classes.
- Interprets test scores for placement in courses.
- Assists students in completing financial aid and four-year college admissions applications.
- Maintains records, student data, and other documents related to the advising caseload.
- Completes weekly, monthly, and annual reports
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of TRiO and institutional policies.
- Proficiency in the use of information technology, including web browsers, word processors, email, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Perform other duties outlined by the Director of SSS within the parameters of the U. S. Department of Education guidelines.
Professional Development
- Must maintain current knowledge of trends and new developments in federal TRiO programs.
- Must complete TRiO training workshops annually
- Must receive required hours of professional development as indicated in the HCC Personnel Manual.
Committees
- Serve on various College committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Masters in Counseling, Psychology, Education or related field.
