Overview: The shipping operator is responsible for the daily shipping operators of all cement products while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or Mountain Cement policies at all times. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the shipping operator must possess include:

  1. Have a working knowledge of the ability to learn shipping operations and material flows.
  2. Must be able to perform basic mathematics with accuracy.
  3. A strong mechanical aptitude.
  4. Have reliable attendance and safety records. 
  5. Be able to work without constant supervision.
  6. Be able to give and take directions.
  7. Must be able to work with the public in person and over the telephone in efficient and courteous manner.
  8. Knowledge of safe and productive operation of mobile equipment.
  9. Must be physically fit. 

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of a shipping operator include but are not limited to:

  1. Safety inspections of all working areas shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be performed as conditions warrant.
  2. Performing a completing inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the shipping foreman. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the shipping operator. The shipping foreman will determine the score of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required. 
    • Replacement of broken or missing bolts, screws, hoses and pipe fittings.
    • Repairs of leaks, dust vent and conveying lines.
    • Replacement of filters (air, oil, water, etc.)
    • Tensioning of small belt drives (v-belts).
    • Replacement of torn or damaged small belt drives (v-belts).
  3. Checking lubrication of all machinery and equipment in the packhouse area and adding lubrication when necessary. 
  4. Loading all trucks and railcars with product. The shipping operator must be knowledgeable of the laws and regulating the weights of vehicles in all areas where MCC product is being shipped.
  5. Clean up of work areas by the shipping operator is to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards. 
  6. Operation of mobile equipment. Proper task training and safe operation guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of mobile equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.
