Senior Manager, Equine Services:

 

The Logistics department is responsible for effectively and efficiently providing materials management and logistics support all LA28 functions. The Sr. Manager, Equine Services will be responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of all equine logistics operations for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games. These responsibilities include providing oversight of the international and domestic transport of horses, feed, equipment, veterinary supplies, and related materials. Reporting to the Head of Special Projects, the Sr. Manager, Equine Services will oversee all aspects of horse movement and welfare logistics, including coordination with LAX on airside operations, venue teams, transportation providers, quarantine facilities, and external government agencies such as USDA, CBP, TSA, and Immigration. This position will play a critical role in identifying and addressing operational gaps, ensuring continuity and support across functional areas and external partners, and delivering safe, efficient, and welfare-focused equine transport solutions throughout Games-time operations. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the Equine Services sub-stream within Logistics to address strategic priorities and Games delivery requirements 
  • Orchestrate and implement an end-to-end equine logistics strategy for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games, including arrivals, departures, stabling, feed supply, and venue transport 
  • Coordinate with international federations, National Olympic Committees, National Paralympic Committees, team officials, and veterinary stakeholders regarding equine movement requirements 
  • Build staffing plans, recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise a multi-disciplinary equine services team 
  • Identify and analyze critical activities to develop contingency, emergency response, and animal welfare plans 
  • Establish and manage expectations with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes 
  • Oversee transport scheduling and routing for horses, feed, tack, equipment, and related materials between airports, quarantine sites, training venues, and competition venues 
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and international regulations related to equine import/export, customs clearance, quarantine, and animal welfare 
  • Partner with veterinary and venue operations teams to ensure proper stabling, biosecurity, hydration, feeding, and recovery procedures are in place 
  • Manage vendor relationships for horse transport carriers, feed suppliers, bedding suppliers, veterinarians, and specialty service providers 
  • Support the development and integration of logistics systems and Games-time tracking tools related to equine operations 
  • Monitor operational readiness through test events, simulations, and readiness exercises 
  • Oversee Games-time issue resolution and rapid response for any equine transport or welfare incidents 
  • Track budgets, contracts, and operational costs related to equine services in partnership with Finance and Procurement 
  • Provide reporting, status updates, and executive briefings to senior leadership as required 

 

Background & Requirements:

  • 7+ years of direct equine operations, equine logistics, veterinary support, or horse stable facility management experience 
  • Previous games experience in Equine Logistics or major international equestrian events strongly preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of US Customs and import / export regulations regarding equine transport 
  • Proven experience managing operational, financial, and welfare aspects of international equestrian transport 
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with international stakeholders and managing end-to-end transport solutions 
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural, multi-national environment 
  • Aptitude to present and clearly communicate to audiences in a multitude of public / private settings, as required 
  • Willing to work on complex, tight, immovable timelines while maintaining a positive attitude, exhibiting patience, persistence and attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated success in independently developing effective equine processes and procedures

  • Utilize knowledge of equine behavior to oversee the logistics operations

  • Collaborative, flexible approach with an ability to roll with the transitional nature of the organization as it grows and establishes itself over the next 2 - 3 years 
  • Experience in drafting technical documents, policies and procedures  
  • Must be proficient with computers as well as Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) 
  • Confident self-starter with the ability to make quick decisions, gathering input from key stakeholders and advancing the initiative forward and drive flawless execution  
  • Passion for sport; passion for Los Angeles  
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneous

 

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Veterinarian Services preferred/ Managerial certification]

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Expectation to work in LA28 offices in Los Angeles 
  • Primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting, working on a computer, and attending virtual or in-person meetings 
  • Frequent travel to airports, equine venues, training facilities; offsite travel to vendor meetings may be required 
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational timelines require, particularly during test events and games time 

 

The annual base salary range for this position is $125,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
