SPS S.T.A.R Student Internship - Textbook Department |

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK |
|
The SPS Internship program is intended to provide hands-on training In this role, responsibilities include supervising, scheduling, monitoring, and evaluating the services of the District's warehouse for textbooks and related curriculum materials. The duties involve substantial physical effort, such as moving, lifting, and managing the book inventory, as well as receiving, cataloging, and delivering shipments. This position assist with operations by processing purchase orders, creating and maintaining inventory records, analyzing past purchases and current requests for textbooks, tracking lost items, coordinating the disposal or transfer of outdated materials, and ensuring compliance with District recordkeeping and information management requirements. Students will be reintroduced to the Virginia Department of Education 5 C’s which are critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and citizenship skills. Through the application of these concepts across various career pathways, students will be equipped with the tools needed to successfully transition into the workforce or post secondary education. All candidates will need to complete the online training before starting the internship. Students may gain entry level high quality work based learning experiences on the following Career Pathways:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
|
Any combination of education and experience to include high school CTE courses junior year and above as well as screening provided by the CTE Department. |

REQUIREMENTS |
|
· Must be a Suffolk Public Schools student in good standing · Must maintain passing grades in all required school subjects · Engage in teamwork and collaboration · Have a willingness to learn trade related skills · Have the ability to adapt to new and changing situations and challenges · Develop problem solving skills related to practical work situations |
