Job Description

The resident will be employed as a School of Medicine (SOM) Intern in the role of physical therapy resident with Emory University from August 11, 2025 through August 24, 2026 (the “Term”) of the residency year (the “Residency Year”). Physical therapy residents are employees of Emory University. The resident will receive monthly compensation during the Residency Year from Emory University in the form of direct deposit payable to the resident. The resident is eligible for certain Emory University benefits (in FT6MO status).

 

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS:

I. Residency Performance/Completion Requirements:


A. Each resident must achieve/complete the following clinical education:
1. 300 hours of classroom/lab didactic coursework
2. 1500 hours of clinical practice; (includes 150 hours of clinical 1:1 mentoring throughout program; at least 100 of the 150 mentoring hours must be in-person (1:1))
a) Any resident who starts the program under ABPTRFE COVID 19 guidelines must complete a minimum of 750 clinical hours and 100 mentoring hours.

B. Each resident must have a score of an 80% on all assessments. A resident that scores less than 80% on any examination must contact the Program Director to discuss areas of deficiency.
1. Written examinations
a) A cumulative score of 80% or greater is required to successfully complete this requirement.
b) Residents may continue in the Program if a single written examination score falls below the minimal score of 80%, but the average examination score for the entire course must be at or above the minimal score of 80% to pass the course/Program.
2. Live Patient examination. A minimum score of 80% is required to successfully complete this requirement.
3. Clinical Competencies. A minimum of 80% on all assessed benchmarks at midterm and final for successful completion of the program.
4. Teaching/Scholarship. Each resident will be required to meet the graduation requirements for each program.

C. Maintain the diagnostic tracking form, complete mentoring evaluations, and program evaluations needed for the Annual Report to be in compliance with the ABPTRE accreditation requirements.

II. Professional Conduct
A. Each resident is expected to maintain professional behaviors consistent with:
1. The American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics
(APTA Code of Ethics)
2. Emory University Standards of Conduct
(Emory University Standards of Conduct)
3. Emory Healthcare Expected Performance and Professional Behaviors (Appendix A) in all areas of the didactic and clinical program.

 

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
