    PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT: The successful candidate will be required to complete fingerprinting through an approved fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

    POSITION SUMMARY: The person in this position is responsible for managing the Autism Center Program and teaching the students in the program. They will meet the educational needs of students on the Autism Spectrum by providing a high degree of structure and management in order to provide appropriate support to aid students in accomplishing individual goals. 

    This includes: 

    Creating a structured environment and daily routines for students and their support paraprofessionals

    Developing accommodations to support individual students 

    Providing instruction to assist students with skill mastery and to access grade level curriculum

    Supporting students with assistive technology, the acquisition of communication skills, social skills, self-regulation and 

    school appropriate behaviors

    Developing and promoting good community relations among stakeholders

    Supporting student integration into mainstream as appropriate and according to the student's IEP

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND  RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    Classroom Environment: Create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that exemplifies effective management structures to purposefully promote and foster effective teaching, learning, and student achievement. Routines and procedures should support student engagement, authentic learning experiences, social-emotional regulation and growth, and individualized high expectations. Promote a learning environment that is respectful of the dignity of the child and is perceived by students as fair and consistent. Ensure all classroom processes, procedures and data collection are highly organized and effective with optimal use of instructional time.

    Collaboration with Staff: Oversee and collaborate with paraeducators, including providing their schedules and activities to be implemented. Responsibilities for paraeducators may include, but are not limited to interview participation, training/development, assign and direct work, performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems. Collaborate with special service providers to ensure team understanding of students' strengths and needs so that they are best leveraged and addressed through educational program planning and service delivery. Lead multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals. Collaborate with educators from other grades or subject areas as appropriate to establish links between disciplines and influence school-wide curriculum and teaching practice.

    Assessment: Evaluate students' abilities and formulate a profile for each student through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments; skilled observation; checklists; histories; and interviews. Use data management tools to analyze results and draw inferences from data to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Implement a progress monitoring system that consistently tracks students' growth in relationship to their IEP goals. Motivate, engage, and empower students to track and monitor their learning. Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level. 

    Lesson Planning & Implementation: Plan and engage students in lessons aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards. Lessons should include instructional objectives, instructional strategies, learning activities, materials, resources, assessments, and be differentiated based on individual students' needs and their IEP goals. Design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes aligned with 21st Century learning. Demonstrate mastery of content, delivering content that is relevant to students and applicable to the real world including life skills training when applicable.  

    Family engagement: Effectively communicate with families about students' progress and opportunities. Utilize technology and/or other avenues to stakeholders. Establish a rapport between students, staff, and families that allows for a proactive response to potential problems.

    Special Education Processes: Implement and follow all special education laws and procedures under IDEA and ECEA.. Write, update, and ensure the implementation of students' IEPs with the support of the special education team, ensuring that all legal paperwork is organized, up-to-date, and in compliance with IDEA regulations. Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations as required for students participating in the ASD program. Conduct frequent monitoring of student progress on IEP goals and ensure that quarterly progress reports contain quantitative data for all IEP goals. Monitor the appropriateness of student's LREs and recommend re-evaluations as needed to determine potential changes in LRE as appropriate to student's needs and progress. Provide regular supervision, training, and evaluation of the para educators that assist in the ASD program. Maintain programming and practices that align with CDE Quality Indicators for Autism Spectrum Disorder.Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.

    Physical Care of Students: Support students who may need diapering or help with a feeding tube. Physically restrain students if necessary to ensure their safety and the safety of those around them. Maintain a current CPI certification.

    Professionalism: Participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet Colorado Licensure requirements. Use professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions. Review processes for improvement opportunities and make changes as needed to ensure quality of the program. Use professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice. Notify the Principal and Director of Special Education of any failure to implement the requirements of assigned students IEP.

    Perform other related duties as requested.

    EXPERIENCE: 

    Prior experience as a special education teacher required.  Previous experience with autism students (preferred).

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

    Must hold Colorado Teaching License or authorization. Must meet content-area qualifications, which could include the appropriate license endorsement, degree in the content area, Colorado State Board of Education-approved content exam, or 36 credit hours as determined by the district. Certified Autism Specialist or experience with ABA strongly preferred

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:The noise level is typical of a school district.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 10 (ten) pounds, lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds with support.  Frequent sitting, bending, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and reaching.  Ability to run, jog, swim and/or expel physical exertion in order to appropriately respond to needs of students.
