Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:


Breakthrough Public Schools (BPS) seeks an Innovation Lab Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. This role is responsible for delivering STEM-focused enrichment programming that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills in scholars. The Innovation Lab Teacher designs and implements engaging, hands-on learning experiences aligned to grades 5–8 curriculum, while supporting a culture of innovation and exploration.


This position also collaborates with school leadership and instructional staff to support scholar achievement, contributes to program implementation, and helps build a strong, equitable learning environment aligned with BPS’s mission.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


The Innovation Lab Teacher will serve as an Enrichment Teacher focused on helping scholars develop and explore STEM education, creating critical thinkers, and enabling the next generation of innovators. 


Instruction & Student Learning



  • Implement structured Innovation Lab curriculum for grades 5–8

  • Facilitate engaging, hands-on STEM learning experiences

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse scholar needs

  • Support small group instruction, tutoring, and push-in services


Program Implementation & Collaboration



  • Attend monthly check-ins and Innovation Lab meetings

  • Participate in weekly check-ins with the Lab Director

  • Support coordination and scheduling of quarterly site visits

  • Collaborate with teachers during non-instructional time (e.g., grading, planning support)


Data, Reporting & Compliance



  • Submit required educator surveys (pre, mid-year, post)

  • Complete mid-year and end-of-year progress reports

  • Submit elective and school engagement plans

  • Provide monthly digital media artifacts to BPS

  • Support collection of student media releases


School & Instructional Support



  • Assist with test administration, including small group facilitation

  • Provide intermittent classroom coverage as needed

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing school culture


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 


Education:


Bachelor’s Degree 


 


Experience: 
















  • Relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of scholars in and out of the classroom

  • Grit and perseverance to work within a fast-paced, evolving program (First Year of implementation)

  • Commitment to use data and technology to personalize learning for both adults and scholars

  • Commitment and enthusiasm for working with an ethnically & economically diverse scholar body

  • Ability to model, live, and reinforce the school’s core values inside and outside the classroom with colleagues, scholars, parents, and the larger community

  • Optimism, resiliency, curiosity, a sense of humor, and a burning passion for personal growth and scholar success




Licensure and Certification(s):




  • Valid OH teaching certificate/license or must be in the process of obtaining a valid OH teaching certificate/license in subject area to be taught

  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the BPS’s acceptable guidelines.


 

Technical Skills and Knowledge:



  • Experience as a high-performing classroom teacher preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in STEM education and innovation-based learning

  • Ability to integrate technology to enhance instruction and student engagement


 


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • Work is performed primarily in a school and classroom setting

  • Requires standing, walking, and active engagement with students throughout the day

  • Occasional sitting for extended periods during planning or administrative tasks

  • Frequent use of computers and instructional technology

  • Moderate noise levels typical of a school environment
