RECREATION ASSISTANT
GENERAL PURPOSE
To perform a variety of routine data entry and clerical and administrative work in support of the Recreation Services office; perform general cleaning tasks on equipment and at various facilities. Enroll customers in programs and membership, and perform sales while handling cash, credit card and checks. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Assists in all aspects of recreation, athletic and special event programs.
Facilitates on-site supervision of recreation, recreation facilities, athletic and special event programs.
Set up, tear down, and cleanup for recreation, athletic and special event programs and activities on and off site.
Utilize programming software and conducts an inventory.
Perform daily tasks such as cleaning, filing, sorting, answering phones, receiving the public and providing customer assistance.
Responsible for but not limited to taking payment for facility rentals, membership sales, sport registrations, recreation activities and other transactions associated with the department.
Serves in various roles during recreation, athletic and special events.
Responsible for entering data into computer system.
Keep essential records and prepare reports as required.
Ensure all department bylaws, policies and procedures are followed.
Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.
Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred; and,
One (1) year of general office, communications or records management experience, preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of the equipment listed below;
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
Must be bondable.
Must be able to work nights and weekends.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing software, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and paper shredder.
