Job Description

Position Goals

This job description for the EMT-P at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital provides criteria for the evaluation of a certified paramedic acting as staff in the emergency department. The EMT-P at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital cares for all patients including neonates, infants, children, adults and geriatrics. The EMT-P will strive to provide proficient, competent care while maintaining the patient's sense of comfort and dignity.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

The staff EMT-P will be responsible for:

 

1. Providing, assisting and initiating care of emergency patients.

2. Meeting and maintaining the guiding principles of care for Patients Emergency Room and Hospital.

3. Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care.

4. Assists in carrying out orders by physician accurately and efficiently.

5. Identifying emergencies and providing necessary intervention.

6. Shows initiative and self-direction in providing patient care and support to other co-workers.

7. Communicating appropriately with patients and co-workers.

8. Showing knowledge when collaborating with physicians, nurses and other clinical facilities in

making decisions about patient care.

9. Administer medications within scope of practice

10. All other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements

 

The requirements for employment with Patients Emergency Room and Hospital are:

*Successful completion of clinical orientation with proven capabilities in skill, knowledge base and vision of Patients Emergency Room and Hospital.

*Certification of Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic license with BLS, ACLS and PALS or proof of experience as Critical Care Emergency Room Technician

* National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic Certification or Texas Department of Health EMT-P

* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding, as outlined in clinical competencies review, of:

- Age-specific care of the emergency patient

- Understanding of family dynamics and appropriate interaction

- Clinical competencies in abnormal lab or test values

- Medication administration competency.

*Maintains skill level by continuing education, collaborative training with co-workers and physicians and annual check-offs.
