Reach University’s Teacher Induction Program strengthens schools by developing and sustaining highly effective equity-driven educators through personalized, collaborative mentoring. We cultivate reflective teaching practices, foster meaningful relationships, and provide holistic support to ensure both teachers and students are uplifted. 

Position Summary 

A contract mentor is responsible for providing mentorship through collaborative mentorship circles for participating teachers in the Teacher Induction Program at Reach University 

Mentors develop strong relationships with participating teachers that are characterized by mutual respect, relational trust, and collaboration. The relationship is the foundation for productive mentorship, which involves supporting teachers with their professional and personal development. Mentors are responsible for facilitating a collaborative mentorship circle with their teachers for a minimum of 30 hours per year (~1 hour per week) to provide mentoring, coaching, and support with TIP deliverables (individualized learning plan and inquiry cycles). 

This also includes engaging in: 

  1. A minimum of three to four formal observation cycles per year

  2. Having 2 one-on-one sessions with each participating teacher

  3. Communicating with teachers to provide asynchronous support in a timely manner 

  4. Engage and participate in professional development 3-4x a year. 

Job requirements

High quality applicants have experience teaching or coaching for equity and the ability to apply a human- and relationship-centered approach to coaching. They are motivated individuals who consistently follow through on responsibilities, communicate openly and professionally, take initiative to address challenges, and are committed to their own professional growth. 

Additional qualifications include: 

  • Experience mentoring new teachers 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in education (i.e school leadership, instructional coaching, professional development facilitation, mentoring)

  • A record of accomplished teaching, scholarship, or educational leadership 

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience in managing group dynamics 

  • Ability to differentiate based on participating teacher’s needs

  • Organized, accountable, and are able to facilitate collaboration 

  • A Clear California Teaching Credential and three years of documented teaching experience 

  • Knowledge of the the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) preferred 

Job responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in the Teacher Induction Program orientation 

  • Facilitate weekly Collaborative Mentorship Circles (minimum 30 hours annually) 

  • Collaborative mentorship circles will have 3 participating teachers, but may vary based on enrollment 

  • Conduct 2 individual sessions for each participating teacher (intake meeting and CSTP co-assessment) 
         -     These hours count towards the 30 annual requirement 

  • Engage in 1 triad meeting with each participating teacher and their admin

  • Honor scheduled meeting times and notify the participating teachers in advance of cancellations and rescheduling 

  • Model Exemplary professionalism and a learning disposition, including deepening an understanding of equitable outcomes 

  • Engage in a minimum of three to four formal candidate observation cycles per year 

  • Honor the non-evaluative and confidential nature of the work 

  • Assist candidates with the various components of the program and deliverables, including signing and providing feedback on candidate’s deliverables

  • Attend and participate in all Mentors Community of Practice, 3-4 per year. 

  • Create and periodically revisit personal mentor goals and ongoing skills development to demonstrate commitment to the mentor role and professional growth 

  • NEW Mentors ONLY - Enroll and participate in MNT 800: Foundations in Coaching (4 sessions) 

Job benefits

Compensation 

● $3,500 per collaborative mentorship circle (three candidates) mentored per year, provided all mentor expectations are met; payment to be divided into two payments after each semester. Mid January for the first payment and Mid June for the second payment. 

  • Pay is prorated for smaller mentorship circles (ie, 1 or 2 candidates)

Contract Details 

The mentor contract begins August 2026. The anticipated end date is June 1, 2027. This is a part-time, contracted and remote position. Applicants must have the appropriate technology capabilities for remote instruction.

MNT 800: Foundations in Coaching is our required training course for all new mentors and new to Reach. 

Course Description and Purpose

MNT 800: Foundations in Coaching is a 2-unit course,  grounded in the Principles of the Reach Mentoring Model, and has been crafted for all mentors both novice and experienced that are new to mentoring at Reach. The course leverages collaborative mentoring models to facilitate reflective, critical, dialogic conversations. The course is structured to tie theory to practice, each session providing participating mentors opportunities to practice their learnings with each other in preparation for application with their mentees. Collaborative models are intentionally applied in this course to create space for co-construction of knowledge and critical thinking to take place. Topics covered in the course include developing relational trust, deep listening, coaching stances, questioning techniques, analyzing coaching practice and preparing for observations. By completion of MNT 800, participating mentors will be equipped with the necessary skills to support their mentees through reflective and problem-resolving conversation structures in their mentoring practice.
