Job Description

Your role as Senior QA Automation Developer

The Provider Experience group is looking for a Senior Software Developer, QA Automation to join the Provider Stream. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will own the automated testing strategy for the care platform's core capabilities — reducing the quality assurance burden on our product teams and enabling faster, safer delivery.

This is not a traditional QA role. You are a developer first, who applies software engineering rigour to the problem of test coverage. Your mission is to build the automated testing infrastructure that protects our most critical clinical workflows at scale, so the rest of the engineering team can ship with confidence.

What you'll be doing

  • Automated Testing Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain end-to-end, integration, and contract testing pipelines that cover the core capabilities of the care platform, from API contracts to Temporal workflows and event-driven flows.
  • Test Strategy & Architecture: Define and enforce the testing pyramid across backend services — establishing clear ownership models, coverage standards, and reliability thresholds in collaboration with engineering leads.
  • CI/CD Integration: Embed automated test suites into our deployment pipelines to catch regressions early and reduce the blast radius of releases on production environments.
  • Developer Enablement: Build reusable testing primitives, fixtures, and tooling that make it easy for backend developers to write high-quality tests without slowing down their velocity.
  • Observability & Quality Signals: Instrument testing pipelines with clear reporting, flakiness tracking, and trend analysis so engineering leadership can make data-driven decisions on coverage gaps.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, DevOps, and engineering teams to align on quality gates, release criteria, and risk assessment for high-stakes clinical features.
  • Pattern Consolidation: Evaluate and migrate existing testing approaches across backend services into a cohesive, maintainable framework — creating a shared foundation that accelerates adoption and eliminates redundant or inconsistent test coverage.

We'd love to hear from you if you have

  • Strong Backend Core: 5+ years of professional software development experience, with deep proficiency in Python and/or Node.js and a solid understanding of distributed systems and microservices.
  • Test Engineering Expertise: Proven track record building and owning automated testing frameworks at scale — including unit, integration, contract (e.g., Pact), and end-to-end testing strategies.
  • Event-Driven Systems: Practical experience testing asynchronous systems, Temporal workflows, or message-broker architectures (SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka).
  • CI/CD & DevOps Mindset: Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (CircleCI, GitHub Actions) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), with a focus on test execution efficiency.
  • Database & API Testing: Experience writing tests that span PostgreSQL queries, REST/gRPC API contracts, and multi-service integration points.
  • Developer Empathy: You understand what makes tests maintainable and trustworthy — and you can advocate for quality standards without adding friction to the team.
  • Regulated Environments: Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries is a significant asset.
