    PART-TIME: 25-35 hours/week; $20-$27 per hour DOQ; Monday - Friday; hours depending on applicant availiability; potentially can lead to a full-time position.  IMRF eligible.

    Trade Experience Required: minimum of 1-3 years (i.e carpentry, electrical, plumbing, drywall, framing, etc.)

     

    SUMMARY

     

    The Parks Specialist II is a basic labor and maintenance position that receives direction from the Superintendent of Parks & Facilities.  The Parks Specialist II is a member of the Parks Department staff and works to maintain District buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.

     

    This position can be involved in projects for The District which are Trades focused (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc).

     

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

     
    • Knowledge of operations, services and activities of grounds and facilities operations and equipment maintenance.
    • Knowledge of general maintenance of athletic areas, tennis courts, playgrounds and other facilities of the District.
    • Two years of responsible experience in a park agency, landscaping business, golf course, nursery, school district operations or other applicable work experience related to grounds or facility maintenance operations.
    • Previous work experience in a skilled trade such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or related maintenance trade preferred.
    • Valid IL driver’s license.
    • Successful applicant must, possess be a minimum of 18 years of age.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification; CPR must be completed with 30 days of start date.
     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks.

     
    • Performs skilled carpentry work, including constructing, repairing, and maintaining park structures such as shelters, fences, bridges, playground equipment, and facility interiors.
    • Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, including water lines, irrigation systems, restrooms, and drinking fountains.
    • Conducts electrical repairs and maintenance, including lighting systems, outlets, wiring, and circuit troubleshooting.
    • Assists with preventive maintenance programs for park facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
    • Operates a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery related to assigned trade work.
    • Responds to maintenance requests, service calls, and emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
    • Conducts routine building and park inspections, identifies maintenance and safety issues, and promptly reports urgent repair needs to the supervisor.
    • Performs seasonal park maintenance duties such as snow removal, mowing, and landscaping as needed.
    • Maintains accurate records of work performed, materials used, and maintenance schedules.
    • Ensures compliance with all safety regulations, district policies, and applicable codes.
    • Supports special events and projects as assigned.
    • May have to work weekends and evening hours as needed.
    • Is available for call-outs as needed.
