    Primary Purpose:  
    Assist the school principal in overall administration, to provide instructional leadership in a number of specific areas of school operations.  Coordinate assigned campus student activities and services, manage and supervise the development of a high school master schedule, and provide leadership and management of all state and national testing.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:
        Master's degree Required
        Educational Administration Preferred
        Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
        Advanced Education Leadership (AEL) certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD)
        Certified Appraisal System (T-TESS) or District Adopted Appraisal System

    Special Knowledge/Skills:
        Thorough understanding of school operations
        Strong background in academic content and instructional strategy
        Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
        Ability to coordinate campus support operations

    Experience:
        Three years' experience as a classroom teacher
        At least one year experience as administrator or assistant principal

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional Management:
    1.    Provide instructional feedback to teachers and administration based on classroom observations and walk-throughs.
    2.    Develop and manage the high school master schedule. 
    3.    Participate in Instructional Rounds.
    4.    Assist in the disaggregation and interpretation of data in order to assist in developing appropriate next steps.
    5.    Oversee and manage all state and federal testing. 
    6.    Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
    7.    Encourage and support development of instructional programs, helping teachers implement district initiatives.
    8.    Promote use of technology in teaching/learning process.
    9.    Assist in the development and implementation of campus safety nets.
    10.    Participate in development of campus improvement plan with staff, parents and community members.
    11.    Provide leadership to assistant principal and other administrators as seen necessary from the principal.

    13.    Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    14.    Communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
    15.    Participate in development of campus improvement plan with staff, parents and community members.
    16.    Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

    Personnel Management: 
    17.    Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
    18.    Manage and supervise the counseling department.
    19.    Assist in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
    20.    Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
    21.    Supervise operations in principal's absence.
    22.    Assist in planning daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
    23.    Supervise reporting and monitoring of student grading 
    24.    Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
    25.    Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
    26.    Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.

    Student Management:
    27.    Ensure that student data is used to improve student achievement
    28.    Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
    29.    Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

    Professional Growth and Development:
    30.    Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
    31.    Assist in campus directed professional development as directed by the principal.
    32.    School/Community Relations
    33.    Articulate the district and school mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    34.    Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
    35.    Utilize appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    36.    Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal.  Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
