About the Department

The City of Valdez Parks Maintenance Department is hiring a Park Maintenance Assistant for the 2026 summer season. Under supervision of the Parks Maintenance Technician, this position performs general maintenance of parks trails and related facilities. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• General maintenance of parks, trails and related facilities

• Must be able to follow directions and work without direct supervision
• Must be able to safely operate a variety of hand tools
• Must be able to frequently lift over 50 pounds
• Must be able to hike up to 4 miles per day
• Comfortable in the operation of lawn mowers and weed whips 

This is a temporary, non-benefited position with estimated work dates May through September, working 37.5 hours per week. Position is open until filled, review of applicants beings April 30, 2026.

Physical requirements and work environment:

• Position runs approximately 10-17 weeks, full time temporary
• Predominate amount of work is performed outdoors

Minimum qualifications:

• Must be 17 years of age or older
