Job Purpose

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading new and continuous development work for the electrical system and subsystems on our robot.

As a core team member in our Operations Department, you will also collaborate extensively with members of the Embedded and Robot Software teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Feature and sub-system ownership from design and development through testing, build package and BOM generation and release to production.

  • Generate system diagrams, electrical schematics, and wiring harness diagrams and assist with assembly and build documentation for both new designs and improvements to existing ones.

  • Define and select electromechanical components such as sensors, actuators, servo motors, and electronic components in conjunction with other engineering functions.

  • Perform troubleshooting of complex analog and digital circuits, from initial failure identification to the implementation of long-term engineering changes.

  • Collaborate with mechanical and firmware teams to ensure integration of electronics within the robot.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Supply Chain teams to meet development and production timelines.

  • Support field deployments and trials at customer sites.

Core Competencies:

  • Power Distribution: Solid understanding of DC-DC conversion, battery protection circuits, and managing "dirty" power in systems with high-torque motors.

  • Communication Standards: Hands-on experience debugging hardware-level communication issues across CAN bus, Ethernet, and RS-485/UART.

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): The ability to design boards that are easy to assemble and test, reducing scrap rate and assembly time.

  • Technical Self-Sufficiency: A 'roll-up-your-sleeves' mentality with the ability to move a project from concept to a physical, tested prototype with minimal supervision.
