Job Description

JOB TITLE: Certified Physical Therapy Assistant (CPTA) 


DEPARTMENT: Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy Department


JOB RELATIONSHIPS:


Responsible to: Physical Therapist

Responsible for: Physical Therapy Aides

Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all hospital departments,

Medical Staff and the public.


JOB SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, performs treatments and provides exercise instructions and demonstrations for inpatients, outpatients, Home Health patients, Nursing Home residents, and school kids.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


Experience: Experience as a CPTA or in the health field preferred, but not necessary


Education: Must be a graduate of a Physical Therapist Assistant program


Req. Cert./ Certified in the State of Kansas or eligible for certification with the

Registration: Kansas State Board of Healing Arts

American Heart CPR Certified





JOB DUTIES (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)


  1. Provides treatment as ordered in a safe, timely manner in accordance with the standards of practice for Physical Therapy.


  1. Maintains equipment in proper working order and adapts the equipment to meet the needs of the patient.


  1. Communicates with Physicians, other department staff, patients, and family members regarding patient progress, problems and plan.


  1. Documents the treatment in concise format in accordance with Standards of practice.


  1. Instructs the patient, family members, or other caregivers in therapeutic procedures and/or exercises to be continued upon discharge.


  1. Assists in the referral process when additional services are required.


  1. Supervises the work of the Physical Therapy Aides.


  1. Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.


  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field.


  1. Possess interpersonal skills needed to function in a “team” setting


  1. Creates a positive, supportive working atmosphere.


  1. Works in harmony with assigned co-workers and other department’s staff.


  1. Demonstrates the ability to accept and implement change.


  1. Displays self-respect and pride in the institution.


  1. Maintains and promotes a positive attitude.


  1. Demonstrates kindness, courteousness, and sensitivity to patients, families, physicians, co-workers, and visitors at all times.
