Position Overview
Help Shape Mass Timber Projects Before They Are Built
MTC Solutions is looking for a driven technical professional to join our Business Development & Technical Service team. This position sits at the intersection of engineering, pre-construction, and industry engagement, and will expand our team to increase our reach and impact within the mass timber industry.
You will build relationships with structural engineers, architects, builders, developers, and mass timber manufacturers across North America, advising them on how to effectively use MTC’s structural hardware systems in their projects. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong construction and technical experience; an engineering background is preferred. They will be able to leverage these attributes to influence projects, support customers, and help advance the use of better structural connection solutions.
About MTC Solutions
MTC Solutions designs, tests, and supplies structural connection hardware for modern mass timber construction. We support architects, engineers, builders, and manufacturers with proven products, technical guidance, and practical solutions that help bring timber buildings to life.
Our mission is to help advance the mass timber industry through tested, efficient, and reliable connection systems while building long-term partnerships with the people shaping the future of sustainable construction.
About the Role
As a Technical Solutions Advisor, you will build relationships with key industry professionals, support project teams during design and pre-construction, and identify where MTC’s products can provide value through improved constructability, efficiency, performance, or technical support.
This is not a traditional engineering role focused only on calculations, nor is it a traditional sales role, instead, it is a client-facing technical role for someone who can earn trust, communicate clearly, understand project needs, and help move opportunities from early design conversations to specification and successful project execution.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain strong relationships with structural engineers, architects, contractors, developers, mass timber manufacturers, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project, customer, and opportunity information in MTC’s CRM system.
- Support customers during the design and pre-construction phases of mass timber projects.
- Help drive project opportunities forward by coordinating with internal sales, engineering, technical service, operations, and marketing teams.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project information to identify where MTC products can be specified and used to improve project outcomes.
- Work with customers to understand their challenges and connect them with practical solutions.
- Develop and deliver technical presentations, project meetings, and industry discussions.
- Stay informed about major mass timber projects, industry trends, customer needs, and competitive activity.
- Travel occasionally across Canada and the United States for customer meetings, conferences, trade shows, project visits, and relationship-building opportunities.
- Work independently in a remote or hybrid environment while staying closely connected to the internal team.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, relationship-oriented, and motivated by impact.
The right person will likely be someone who:
- Has a technical background in engineering, construction, architecture, or wood design.
- Enjoys working with people and building long-term professional relationships.
- Has the confidence to speak with engineers, architects, builders, manufacturers, and construction professionals.
- Can understand technical details without losing sight of the broader project objectives.
- Is proactive, self-driven, and comfortable creating momentum without waiting for step-by-step instructions.
- Enjoys solving problems in a practical, collaborative way.
- Is organized enough to manage multiple relationships, projects, and follow-ups at the same time.
- Is comfortable working remotely and independently.
- Is willing and able to travel occasionally.
- Wants to be part of a growing company in a fast-moving and innovative industry.
This role is ideal for a technical person who enjoys influence, strategy, customer interaction, and practical problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in structural engineering, wood engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or a related technical field.
- Professional engineering background or engineering-in-training experience is considered a strong asset.
- Experience in mass timber, structural design, construction, technical advisory, pre-construction, or building products is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using CRM systems, such as HubSpot, is an asset.
- Bilingual English/French is an asset but not required.
- Valid passport and ability to travel within North America.
Compensation Package
- Annual salary of $80,000–$120,000, based on experience and qualifications.
- Extended health benefits.
- Hybrid work model, combining in-office collaboration with work-from-home flexibility.
- Three weeks of vacation to start and up to four weeks overtime, plus additional paid days off
- Ongoing training and development to support career growth.
