Position: Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) Operator

Team: Winding

Primary Objective of Position:

The VPI operator is responsible for the overall operation of the Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) process as it relates to the manufacturing of Electric Machinery products.

Skills Matrix:

The VPI Operator position is part of the Winding Team skills Matrix. This position works as a team member utilizing and performing to the Winding Team skills matrix, which outlines the comprehensive skills in the Winding Team.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Operate VPI equipment per operating instructions in order to impregnate required electrical components, i.e., half coils, shunt coils, wound stators, wound exciter rotors and wound exciter stators.

  • Operate mill, shear, band saw, drill press and other machining equipment in order to manufacture slot wedges, filler and other glastic parts.

  • Responsible for the start up and shut down of multiple ovens for pre and post heat operation.

  • Mix and regulate resin level.

  • Assure VPI operation conforms to current procedure.

  • Install bolts and release agent as required prior to impregnation as well as removing bolts and excess resin after impregnation.

  • Assist Quality Team with wet tests.

  • Interpret and use routings, shop standards, process specifications, and work instructions.

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance.

  • May assist in other areas of the Winding Team skills matrix on occasion.

  • Lift and move materials using forklift, pallet jack, overhead crane or jib crane.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to Continuous Improvement by identifying opportunities in day-to-day work.

  • Performs to ISO 9001 Quality Standards and abides to OSHA and EPA regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities:

  • High School degree (preferred) with one year of manufacturing experience (preferred).

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, process and bill of materials.

  • Ability to use a variety of measuring tools.

Based on experience and qualifications

Pay Types

Voluntary weekend overtime.

Saturday is paid at time and a half, Sundays are paid at double time!
