Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Gastroenterology team in Longview, TX. This position offers a balanced mix of outpatient clinic responsibilities and inpatient coverage, providing the opportunity to manage a diverse GI patient population.

The role is primarily clinic-based, with a rotating inpatient week approximately every 4th week, where the APP will support consults and rounding as an extension of the physician team.


Key Responsibilities

Outpatient Clinic Responsibilities:


  • Manage a panel of gastroenterology patients, including chronic GI and liver disease

  • Provide follow-up care for patients requiring ongoing monitoring, including those needing routine labs and medication management

  • Conduct patient visits with typical 25–30 minute appointment slots

  • Develop and manage treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians

  • Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic studies

  • Provide patient education on disease management and treatment plans

Inpatient Responsibilities:


  • Participate in inpatient rotation approximately every 4th week

  • Perform inpatient rounding and manage provider consults

  • Act as an extension of the on-call physician, carrying out delegated tasks

  • Enter orders, assist with consults, and coordinate inpatient care

  • Work daytime hours (approximately 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM) during inpatient rotation

Qualifications


  • Current Texas license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

  • National certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA)

  • Previous experience in gastroenterology, internal medicine, or a related specialty preferred

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Schedule & Compensation

  • Clinic Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Inpatient Rotation: Approximately every 4th week, daytime hours (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
