Job Description

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking a Board Certified Behavior Strategist for the 26-27 school year. 


 


TITLE: Board Certified Behavior Strategist


POSITION TYPE:  TCHR


HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:



Required:



  1. Certification as Board Certified Behavior Analyst

  2. Masters degree in Education or related filed

  3. Iowa teaching license with special education endorsement or Statement of Professional Recognition: social worker, school pyschologist, or speech language pathologist.

  4. Four or more years experience working with special needs population.


 


Desired:



  1. Experience in an urban school district.


 


BASIC FUNCTION:


Work with special education support staff to model behavioral and instructional strategies which promote po-social skills in student with intense behavioral needs. Coordinate and superviser programmign utlizing Applied Behaivor al Analysis methodology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Develop and implement a system for training staff on the methodology of Applied Behavioral Analysis.
2. Plan and provide professional development for special education teachers and support staff.
3. Work directly with special education support staff to develop methods for working with special education teachers on classroom management and instruction in special education classrooms.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior plans for students with intensive behavioral needs.
5. Use research-based strategies to model classroom management and instruction with students.
6. Analyze student achievement data to measure effectiveness of instructional models and strategies.
7. Meet regularly with special education support teachers.
8. Attend special education zone meetings.
9. Attend and participate in designated training sessions.
10. Review materials and programs to provide guidance for the special education department.
11. Read current research articles and professional materials.
12. Attend in and out of district conferences as assigned by supervisor.


ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.

  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned

FT/PT: Full Time  DAYS: 195 days   HOURS: 7.75 Hour Day


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, driving, use of computer and telephone


WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors
