Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager of Nursing is responsible for overseeing nursing services for Behavioral Health Clinic, MAT – Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Clinic and Integrated Health Care (IHC). This role provides operational and clinical oversight of nursing staff performance while ensuring high-quality, compliant, and consistent nursing practices across the organization. The Manager of Nursing supports nursing staff through supervision, coaching, policy implementation, and quality assurance activities, and works collaboratively with clinical and operational leaders to support safe, effective, and consumer-centered care 

RESPONSIBILITIES   

Nursing Operations & Clinical Oversight 

  • Oversee daily nursing operations across all Clinics and programs to ensure safe, effective, and timely nursing care. 

  • Ensure nursing practice aligns with evidence-based standards, organizational policies, and state and federal regulations. 

  • Monitor consumer care activities, acuity levels, and treatment plans to ensure appropriate nursing interventions. 

  • Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff in addressing complex care needs and clinical decision-making. 

  • Promote consumer safety practices, including infection prevention, medication management, and risk-reduction strategies. 

 

Leadership & Staff Management 

  • Supervise and support nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, MAs, and other clinical support personnel. 

  • Ensure appropriate delegation of duties based on scope of practice and licensure requirements. 

  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and address performance concerns in collaboration with Human Resources. 

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, staffing assignments, and scheduling for nursing staff. 

  • Foster a collaborative and accountable work environment that supports teamwork and professional growth. 

 

Quality, Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Develop, maintain, and implement nursing policies and procedures consistent with standards of nursing practice, organizational philosophy, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Monitor incident reports, complaints, and unusual occurrences; ensure timely review and appropriate resolution. 

  • Coordinate and participate in quality assurance activities, including clinical reviews, audits, and corrective action planning. 

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., state nursing regulations, CMS, Joint Commission). 

  • Monitor documentation quality, medication administration practices, and adherence to clinical standards. 

 

Data, Reporting & Performance Metrics 

  • Monitor key clinical indicators, nursing productivity, and operational metrics. 

  • Use data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. 

  • Report nursing performance, quality indicators, and compliance updates to leadership on a regular basis. 

  • Participate in strategic planning and initiatives related to nursing services and clinical operations. 

 

Operational & Administrative Management 

  • Develop and manage nursing staffing plans, workflows, and resource allocation to meet clinical needs. 

  • Ensure appropriate nursing coverage across all locations and respond to urgent staffing issues. 

  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to ensure consistency in nursing operations across sites. 

  • Support budgeting, inventory management, and procurement of nursing supplies and equipment.  

 

Education & Professional Development 

  • Identify training needs and coordinate onboarding and ongoing education for nursing staff. 

  • Promote evidence-based practice, skills competency, and maintenance of licensure and certifications. 

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to support leadership development within the nursing team. 

 

Consumer & Family Relations 

  • Address consumer or family concerns related to nursing services in a timely and professional manner. 

  • Promote compassionate, culturally responsive, and consumer-centered care. 

  • Support consumer education and engagement in care planning. 

 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for attending all mandatory in-services, continuing education and annual health requirements. 

  • Comply with all Corporate Compliance policies, practices and procedures. 

  • Report all unethical activities to supervisor, Corporate Compliance Office, Values Hotline number or Human Resource Director. 

  • Comply with all OSHA and safety policies, practices, and procedures Report all unsafe practices or accidents to supervisor, Safety Supervisor and/or OSHA Coordinator. 

  • Will be compliant with the relevant regulations concerning the privacy and security of consumer’s protected health information (PHI) as established by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). 

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. 

  • Follow all policies and procedures set by the Agency. 

 

REQUIREMENTS

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related healthcare field preferred; an equivalent combination of relevant nursing leadership experience may be considered

  • Active, unrestricted RN license required

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing experience, including supervisory or management responsibility, preferably in behavioral health or integrated care settings

 

Essential Requirements for the Position:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Medical Assistants.
