Job Description

This position is open until filled.


 


JOB GOAL:  To supervise and coordinate food services to ensure proper nutrition and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors


 


RESPONSIBLE TO:  Superintendent and Building Principal


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


1.  High school diploma or equivalent
2.  Experience in institutional or large-scale food preparation and kitchen management preferred
3.  Successful completion of the state food service courses, including baking, main dish, and management
4.  Computer expertise required
5.  Record keeping, math, and accounting skills
6.  Expertise required in the use of food service equipment
7.  Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance


 


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:


1.  Prolonged sitting and standing
2.  Repetitive motions
3.  Prolonged periods of time viewing a computer screen
4.  Physical exertion to manually move, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
5.  Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted
6.  Stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, and turning
7.  Occasional work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments with numerous interruptions
8.  Must work in and around fumes and odors


 


TERMS:


1.  At will


2.  Term of assignment is 10.5 months
3.  Salary and benefits determined annually by the Board of Education


 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


1.  Support the district’s vision, mission, and values


2.  Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies, the Kansas State Department of Education, and the local board of education


3.  Operate all equipment appropriately as required


4.  Attend job-related training classes and train and evaluate employees under his/her direct supervision


5.  Responsible for the daily operation of the kitchen, including the ordering of supplies, being involved in the daily preparation of meals, and assisting where needed


6.  Practice procedures in food preparation, use and care of equipment and personal habits to be sure sanitation standards are met


7.  Follow standards of safety in storing and serving food


8.  Set work schedules for cooks, verify and submit time sheets to payroll


9.  Maintain a required system of accountability by managing the program in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements


10.  Keep accurate count of all lunches (i.e., paid, free, reduced, and adult) and be responsible for accurate daily deposits


11.  Keep daily menu planning book, turn in weekly and monthly reports, and maintain monthly inventory


12.  Work with the principal in scheduling meal periods


13.  Participate in implementing cost-containment measures while maintaining quality


14.  Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner


15.  Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community


16.  React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned


17.  Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings as required


18.  Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the superintendent
