Columbus Academy Summer Experience

Position Type: Seasonal (June 2026, July on Standby; Sessions 2�8)
Schedule: Monday�Friday, 7:45 AM � 4:00 PM
Reports To: Summer Experience Leadership Team

Position Overview

The Counselor in Training (CIT) Coordinator leads a structured leadership development program for rising 8th�11th grade students. This role blends mentorship, supervision, and program coordination to support CITs as they gain hands-on experience working in camp settings.

The CIT Coordinator is responsible for creating a positive, consistent experience where participants build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn what it means to be a member of a camp team. This position plays a key role in developing future counselors while supporting the overall success of Summer Experience programs.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead daily CIT morning meetings (7:45�8:30 AM) focused on expectations, leadership, and goal setting
  • Facilitate daily journal reflections and group discussions
  • Provide consistent coaching, encouragement, and real-time feedback
  • Model professionalism, initiative, and positive engagement

Program Supervision

  • Oversee CIT daily attendance, arrival, and dismissal
  • Assign and monitor CIT placements across camp programs (primarily Lower School)
  • Ensure CITs are actively supporting counselors and engaged with campers
  • Provide support and redirection as needed throughout the day

Training & Development

  • Deliver onboarding and weekly orientation support for CIT participants
  • Reinforce expectations around safety, respect, responsibility, and communication
  • Support skill development in:
    • Camper supervision and engagement
    • Transitions and group management
    • Teamwork and communication
    • Leadership and initiative

Coordination & Communication

  • Maintain daily schedules and CIT assignments
  • Facilitate afternoon leadership break/meeting (approx. 30 minutes)
  • Collaborate with instructors, counselors, and leadership staff (Leadership team Meetings Tuesdays 10:30am, Sr. Counselor & Camper Care Specialist Meeting TBD)
  • Communicate with families as needed

Evaluation & Growth

  • Complete weekly evaluations for each CIT
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to support growth
  • Support end-of-session recognition, including certificates of completion

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years� experience working with middle or high school students in a camp, school, or youth program
  • Associates degree or higher in Education, Youth Development, or a related field preferred
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and relationship-building skills
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Effective communicator with a positive and professional presence
  • Camp or youth leadership experience preferred
  • Proficient in Google Suite/Workspace
  • Skilled in email management, data systems/entry
