    Job Summary:

    The Cantab Advisor oversees the planning, development, production, and distribution of the school yearbook. The advisor guides a student-led team in capturing and preserving the school year through photography, writing, design, and editing, while ensuring timely production and adherence to school and district policies.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervise and mentor students in the yearbook staff.
    • Oversee all phases of yearbook production: planning, content creation, layout, editing, and publishing.
    • Teach students principles of journalism, photography, graphic design, and ethical storytelling.
    • Coordinate with the school administration, faculty, and outside vendors (such as publishers or photography studios).
    • Develop and maintain a production schedule to meet publishing deadlines.
    • Ensure yearbook content adheres to school policies and reflects diverse student representation.
    • Manage yearbook budget, including fundraising efforts and sales tracking.
    • Promote yearbook sales throughout the school community.
    • Maintain and manage photographic equipment and digital design tools (as applicable).
    • Attend school events (as needed) to supervise coverage and/or gather content.
    • Facilitate regular meetings and work sessions with yearbook staff.
    • Provide an inclusive and supportive environment for student creativity and collaboration.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Ohio teaching certificate.
    • Experience or strong interest in journalism, photography, graphic design, or publishing preferred.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to mentor and work collaboratively with students.
    • Knowledge of digital yearbook software (e.g., Jostens, Herff Jones, Balfour) is a plus.
    • Commitment to representing the student body fairly and respectfully.

     

    Work Environment:

    • Duties performed both during and outside of regular school hours.
    • Some evening and weekend hours may be required to cover school events.
