Job Description

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks a Director of Online Teaching Pathways/ Assistant Professor of Education to join its Online Degree Completion program serving undergraduate students. Hires at other ranks may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications.

Program Overview: The University of Olivet’s online teaching pathways program is a rapidly growing program now exceeding 100 students and projected to surpass 150 next year. Unlike traditional teacher preparation programs, UO’s program includes coursework from alternative route programs (#TEACH or Teachers of Tomorrow),which allows students to begin that pathway before graduation. Upon graduation, students are required to complete an alternative route program to become fully licensed. The flexibility in our program is ideal for adults who are working in the classroom or interested in switching careers. It also allows us to work with students in states across the country.

Required Skills and Experience: MA in Teaching, Curriculum, Educational Leadership, or other educational field (doctorate preferred). Candidates must have extensive PK-12 teaching experience and still be excited about being in the classroom. Any grade level or subject area is welcome. We seek candidates who are able to share their passion for teaching with adult students, are knowledgeable and current in the field, embrace Olivet’s relationship-based approach to pedagogy, and embody our commitment to inclusivity.

Director Responsibilities: The Director’s primary responsibilities include partnership maintenance with the alternative route programs and grant programs, faculty oversight, student advising oversight, and academic quality and compliance assurance. The director will need to develop a solid understanding of licensing requirements and processes in multiple states.

Faculty Responsibilities: The director will receive course releases for the administrative work, and this will be a full-time faculty position. Full-time faculty members teach 24 credit hours (or the equivalent) over the academic year, with institutional support provided for scholarly activities. Additional faculty responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, engaging in scholarly activities, and supporting the university and its mission through departmental and university committee participation, program and curriculum development, and other service.

Students from underrepresented minorities constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American. Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Starting Date:  June 15, 2026 preferred; other start dates considered. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue as needed.
