    Required Certifications & Qualifications

    Watertown Public Schools is seeking a dedicated General Education Teacher for the Watertown Alternative Program (secondary level) for the 2026-2027 school year. This role focuses on supporting at-risk middle and high school students through engaging, standards-aligned instruction in a structured alternative setting.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Secondary Connecticut teaching certification - an endorsement. .
    • Prior experience in high school, alternative education, or credit recovery programs.
    • Proven ability to engage disengaged or off-track students.
    • Familiarity with CT Core Standards, technology integration, and student data systems.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to culturally responsive teaching.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons tailored to diverse learning needs and secondary content areas.
    • Implement differentiated instruction, progress monitoring, and data-driven adjustments to support student growth.
    • Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment using proactive management and restorative practices.
    • Build rapport with students to boost motivation, attendance, and accountability.
    • Communicate regularly with families, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and needs.
    • Collaborate with the middle and high schools to maintain accurate records, grades, and reports.
    • Participate in team meetings and professional development.
    • Support district-wide goals for equity, inclusion, and graduation readiness.

    Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Performance Abilities

    • Deep knowledge of adolescent development and secondary academic/behavioral needs.
    • Expertise in lesson design, active engagement, and flexible instructional strategies.
    • Proficiency in classroom management, relationship-building, and de-escalation.
    • Ability to analyze assessment data and adapt teaching for optimal outcomes.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills for records, reporting, and collaboration.
    • Commitment to a safe, inclusive environment that fosters respect and growth.

    Additional Duties

    • This position reports to the Director of Special Education and Related Services and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special and General Education and the Building Administrator
    • Perform all other duties that may be assigned

    Terms of Employment

    • 186 Days
    • Refer to Watertown Education Association Union Contract

    Work Schedule

    • Monday - Friday, 7:20am-2:30pm
