Summary
Jefferson West High School is seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual to join our team as an English Language Arts & Public Speaking Teacher.


Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans to ensure students' learning objectives are met.
- Manage classroom behavior and maintain a respectful and productive learning environment.
- Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
- Provide support to students with diverse learning needs, adapting teaching methods as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding classroom activities and student progress.
- Complete daily attendance and any required documentation accurately.
- Collaborate with school staff to maintain a cohesive and supportive educational environment.
- Uphold school policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students.

Requirements
- Valid teaching certification.
- Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to various classroom environments and manage diverse student needs.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic and professionalism.
- Background check clearance as per school district/ state requirements.

TEACHER
PURPOSE: The Teacher creates a positive and professional learning environment to facilitate the personal, social,
and intellectual development of students, and to guide students toward constructive and worthy
citizenship. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Teacher must
work closely with the parents, staff, and administration of USD #340.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
PAYMENT: According to negotiated agreement; the agreement supercedes this job description in areas defined in
the agreement between JWEA and the USD 340 Board of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university
Current Kansas Teaching Certificate on file in the Central Office.
Health Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made)
Desire to continue career improvement.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS: Teach approved District curriculum, based on State standards
Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
Guide students toward constructive and worthy citizenship.
Use educational technology effectively.
Demonstrate understanding and support of effective teaching practices.
Adhere to all district guidelines and policies.
Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
Work effectively with community organizations.
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Support the value of an education.
Support the philosophy and mission of USD #340.
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS: Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
Required to regularly stand and talk and hear.
Irregular or extended hours on occasion.
Close and far vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Occasionally lift or move 40 pounds.
Frequent driving when assigned more than one building.
GENERAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and implement effective lessons, using time, materials and resources effectively and efficiently,
striving to meet state standards for all learners.
Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback..
Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom
management, lesson planning, and knowledge of learner needs.
Provide supervision as needed ie. corridor, playground, etc.
Attend staff meetings, ranging from general to building, grade, subject matter level, or directed to
individual student need.
Effectively participate in the development and updating of curriculum and instructional practices.
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities and
account for same in their care.
Coordinate and supervise field trips, as appropriate.
Request room maintenance, other than emergency or heat adjustment, through the Principal.
Admit pupils into the building only if the students are under appropriate supervision as defined by the
Principal.
Assist with the activities of student organizations.
Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student
recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.
Obtain advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal or other Administrative Staff.
