| DESCRIPTION: | Math Intervention Summer Program Facilitators will support a group of incoming 9th grade students in need of math intervention. Using the IXL program, facilitators will track student data and utilize program tools to maximize student success; they will meet, virtually, with students to provide support, motivation, and tutoring. Program training will be provided and facilitators will be expected to attend in-person meetings at the beginning and end of the program, and weekly virtual program meetings. *With the exception of the required in-person meetings listed below, this program will be virtual. Program Description
Who will participate?
Incoming 9th graders who would like to improve their math skills over the summer
Program Description
Participating students and parents will attend an in-person orientation meeting and students will take the IXL Diagnostic test during the first week of the program. Teacher facilitators will proctor the diagnostic and attend the orientation meeting.
During the 5-week program, participating students will be paired with a mathematics teacher facilitator who will support them while they independently work on mastering mathematics skills in the IXL online program. Each student will have a goal of mastering one skill with a Smart Score of at least 80 each weekday (taking approximately 15-20 minutes a day, 5 skills per week). Teachers will utilize reports and tools in IXL to maximize student success. Teachers will meet with students at least once per week to support, motivate, and tutor their assigned students.
Incentives
Students will have the opportunity to receive incentives for achieving goals (for example for every 5 skills they master, they will level up to the next incentive). Incentives may include school swag (like t-shirts, sweatshirts, ballcaps), gift cards, and PBIS points.
