Job Title:           Director, Solution Architecture

Department:      IT

Reports To:       EVP, CIO

FLSA Status:    Exempt

Management:   Yes

Salary Range:  $175,000 - $215,000/yr

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Director, Solution Architecture is responsible for the execution, reliability, and modernization of all technology platforms supporting mortgage origination. This role ensures operational excellence, regulatory alignment, and continuous improvement across applications, infrastructure, data platforms, automation initiatives, and vendor-supported systems. This position serves as the senior technology leader for the division and partners closely with executive leadership to improve velocity, scalability, and risk management across the technology ecosystem.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technology Operations & Platform Reliability

  • Own day-to-day performance and availability of all division technology platforms (LOS, integrations, data systems, automation tools).
  • Establish SLAs, KPIs, and uptime targets.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for critical incidents.
  • Manage vendor performance and enforce contractual SLAs.

 Business Alignment & Throughput Optimization

  • Partner with Production, Operations, Compliance, and Finance leadership.
  • Improve workflow efficiency through automation and system enhancements.
  • Translate business strategy into executable technology roadmaps.

Architecture & Modernization Execution

  • Execute against enterprise-defined architecture standards (cloud-first, API-first, modular design).
  • Lead application modernization and system performance optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure proper documentation, integration governance, and technical debt reduction.

Security, Risk & Regulatory Execution

  • Ensure applications and development processes are following SOX, NYDFS, and data governance requirements.
  • Implement enterprise cybersecurity policies at the development level.
  • Oversee vendor due diligence execution within division.

Data & Automation Enablement

  • Support expansion of data capabilities to improve reporting, forecasting, and operational visibility.
  • Oversee automation initiatives to reduce manual workflows.
  • Ensure readiness for AI-enabled capabilities within enterprise governance frameworks.

Leadership Expectations

  • Build and mentor a high-performing technology team.
  • Foster accountability, documentation discipline, and engineering rigor.
  • Communicate clearly with executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Operate with business-first mindset, not technology-first bias.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8–12+ years progressive technology leadership experience.
  • Experience in regulated financial services (mortgage preferred).
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering, infrastructure, or enterprise applications teams.
  • Experience managing technology budgets and vendor contracts.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred).

EDUCATION:

  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience modernizing legacy systems.
  • Exposure to API-driven and micro services architectures and cloud-native platforms.
  • Experience implementing automation or AI-enabled tools in regulated environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is in an office setting with computer and general office equipment. The position requires the ability to move freely around within the department and other department locations
